A Chelsea
roof is transformed from a bleak open space to an enclosed, child-friendly,
garden terrace. The space
has been softened by the use of pine decking, mirrored walls, a water
sculpture, artificial grass and an imaginative use of lighting.
The most
important concern on a roof terrace is the overall weight. Decking
is a light material ideally suited for such situations.
Planting
is best confined to pots where the depth of soil can be controlled
: soil is extremely heavy when wet.
Grasses
and a simple, bold colour scheme are very effective.
